TRON 2.0 GameSpy Master Server Is Currently Down

By TronFAQ on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 12:37 AM
January 20th, 2013 UPDATE: Gamespy has dropped support for TRON 2.0. A fix for Multiplayer has been released. You will need the fix to play online.

As I write this, the GameSpy Master Server for TRON 2.0 is currently down.

What does this mean? It means that you won't be able to find any servers when you try to Join an Internet Game from the Multiplayer menu. Effectively, you can't play online any more. (Yes, I'm aware it's still possible . . . but it's become a lot more difficult.) This affects both the PC and Mac versions of the game.

Now, this situation is more than likely temporary. It's happened before to other games that use GameSpy's services. And plenty of games older than TRON 2.0 are still supported by GameSpy.

I wouldn't be panicking yet. But I wanted to post this article, in case the situation continues for any serious length of time.

If the Master Server isn't back up within the next couple of days, I will be sure to investigate what is going on and report it here.

Thanks to TRON.dll and Daddyo for letting me know.

UPDATE 1: I've discovered evidence in the GameSpy forums that other games are affected as well. A moderator in the forums says that GameSpy is aware of the problem, and is working on fixing it.

UPDATE 2: I don't know exactly when the TRON 2.0 Master Server went back up, but as of 7:25 PM EST today (when I'm writing this update): the server is working again. Crisis averted. :)

UPDATE 3: And now the TRON 2.0 Master Server is down again, as of Sept. 18th at 6:35 PM EST. It was working last night, and earlier this morning. Sigh . . . c'mon GameSpy! Fix this issue properly.

UPDATE 4: I'm not sure when the TRON 2.0 Master Server went back up. But as of 4:25 PM EST on Sept. 21st, the server is working again.

However, not very many TRON 2.0 servers are being listed. I don't know whether that's because some server operators took their servers down temporarily, or if GameSpy still needs to sort things out. On the GameSpy forums, some people have suggested that server operators may need to restart their servers in order for them to appear.

Despite the Master Server being down, my boxhat server's are still running.
You can connect directly to them using IP and Port number.

The moderator on Gamespy's forums made a post, asking which games still need to be fixed.

So I left a reply, asking for Tron 2.0 to be added to the list. Luckily, I had an IGN/Gamespy/Filefront account already. Though, I had to go look up my account info because I haven't used that account in years. :)
