LDSO Forum And Wiki - Temporarily Down

By TronFAQ on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10:05 PM

The LDSO site forum and wiki are temporarily down, and it looks like it's going to take a while to get things fixed.

From what we can tell (not 100% sure yet): our hosting provider made some changes on their backend without notifying us, which resulted in the forum and wiki becoming broken.

The wiki being down has affected file downloads from the All TRON 2.0 Files page. A number of the links will be broken. But recently added file Mirror links will mean that each file can still be downloaded. Just try the other Mirror link for a file, if one of them doesn't work.

We'll try and get things up and running again, ASAP.

June 24th, 2014 UPDATE: As we suspected: our host made changes that impacted our site, which resulted in both the forum and wiki becoming broken. However, our site administrator Load "*",8,1 fixed the problem this morning. Everything on the site is now back to normal.

TRON 2.0: Killer App Mod v1.2 - Demoing new Weapons, Powerups, Translations, Other Features

By TronFAQ on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 1:36 AM
It's been a while since the last major news update for the TRON 2.0: Killer App Mod. And four years since the release of the previous version of the mod. So, what's been happening?

Well, there are two major reasons for this. 1) Lack of time and manpower. The project was down to one person (myself) for a long period. I'm simultaneously working on another LDSO project called User Error 3 for TRON 2.0. 2) Feature creep. A lot of the features now in the upcoming v1.2 of the mod, were originally not planned until a potential v1.3 much further down the road. But due to certain breakthroughs occurring sooner than expected, features were pushed up into v1.2. (Many thanks go out to Kain-Xavier and another contributor for helping to make this happen, far earlier than planned.)

00:23 - Improved Derez Powerups
01:08 - New Derez Powerups
01:34 - Spawning in protected areas, increased health and energy
02:02 - Powerups semi-randomized, and more than one of each
02:34 - Barriers to protected areas prevents spawn killing and sniping
02:49 - DM-03 retail map expanded play area
03:25 - New Reinstall Powerup
04:03 - New Power Surge Powerup
04:42 - New Read-Only Powerup
05:21 - Reinstall Powerup from another player's perspective
05:43 - Disc Charger weapon in Derez
06:10 - Rod Rifles weapon in Derez, uses two hands
06:59 - Ball Storm weapon in Derez
07:29 - Burst Cannon weapon in Derez
07:58 - Rod Primitive weapon in Derez, now uses two hands
08:25 - Disc Charger weapon in Single Player
09:14 - Rod Rifles weapon in Single Player
09:55 - Ball Storm weapon in Single Player
11:21 - Burst Cannon weapon in Single Player
12:10 - Russian Translation
16:03 - Hungarian Translation

One of the goals of this project, was to eventually bring over as many features as possible from the Xbox version of the game. Thanks to breakthroughs occurring earlier than expected: the upcoming v1.2 release will feature fully functional equivalents of all the Multiplayer weapons introduced in that version of the game, similar powerups in Multiplayer mode (Derez aka Deathmatch), plus the ability to use the weapons in Single Player as well (only via the Gold cheat function), the latter of which is something that wasn't even possible in the Xbox version (to my knowledge).

Russian and Hungarian translations are now included in v1.2 of the mod. Many thanks to the Notabenoid.com team and "Rapid" for giving their permission.

Another goal, was to try and fix as many issues as we could in TRON 2.0 and add some new functionality where possible. The video above demonstrates fixes to errors in the Single Player levels, and further improvements to cutscenes for widescreen displays.

An abbreviated list that highlights v1.2 fixes to the game, and to the mod itself:
  • Integrates v1.042 Unofficial Patch, which no longer needs to be installed separately.
  • Eliminated the "TRON 2.0 has not been run before, you must run TRON 2.0 at least once" error during installation.
  • Updated version of the installer program should prevent issues occurring sometimes during installation (hanging, won't install after a failed installation attempt).
  • Lists other mod add-ons during installation, offers to download them, and installs everything in the correct order.
  • Change any language version of the game to any other language, both text and speech (except Russian and Hungarian, where only text is available).
  • Possibly reduced the frequency of the game crashing while fighting DataWraiths.
  • The hit detection on the System Memory screen (where you work with subroutines) is now properly aligned with objects, in non-4:3 aspect ratios. Before, you would have to hover over the outer edge of objects to get them to highlight.
  • When you went to Options > Display from the main menu in a widescreen resolution, the game would reset back to 640x480 because it didn't support any resolutions that weren't 4:3 aspect. This no longer happens. You can now select any resolution your display supports. Though it's best to stick with the resolution you chose when installing the mod. This is something that was difficult to achieve, but has now been successfully implemented.
  • Fixed a bug in the Mod Manager that would cause the game to crash with messages like: Error copying file cres.dll, Could not init CircuitButeMgr, Couldn't initialize DebrisMgr, and various Client MFC errors. This bug could also cause custom maps to not load in Multiplayer.

Most people will be aware that GameSpy is shutting down entirely, soon. But they already started dropping support for older games a couple of years ago.

The above video shows tentative support of the in-game server browser working again, via OpenSpy. Whether this will function 100% correctly at the time of v1.2 release, is currently uncertain. OpenSpy's emulation of GameSpy for TRON 2.0 is not perfect, which results in a bit of odd behavior. Browsing and joining servers does work, but not without said issues. We're trying to work with the people at OpenSpy to improve this situation.

The Multiplayer Fix mentioned in a previous article will likely be included as a fallback, in case the in-game server browser remains flakey.

We don't have an exact ETA for the Killer App Mod v1.2 update. We're hoping to finally have it done around Summer 2014, but don't quote us on that.

TRON 2.0: Killer App Mod - Single Player Level Fixes In Future Update

By TronFAQ on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 6:29 PM

Yes, finally another preview trailer after all this time! Killer App Mod v1.2 for the PC version of the game TRON 2.0 is still being worked on. It's taking so long for two reasons:

  • Lack of free time and manpower. The number of people working on it was down to one (me) for a long period, but lately I've been receiving help from another team member. I'm also working on the upcoming User Error 3 Single Player mission.

  • Massive feature creep. A lot of things planned for a potential v1.3 have been brought forward into v1.2, like the recreations of the new Xbox weapons and now these level fixes.

There are a few mistakes in the Single Player levels for TRON 2.0. The next release of the Killer App Mod will fix the mistakes (that I've noticed), and also make some minor changes to improve the experience.

The change to the laser status sign behind Jet in the opening cutscene is the most "radical", of all the fixes. (If you've watched the original TRON film and observed the laser status sign there, you'll see why this change was made.) Don't worry about us going crazy with all sorts of changes. They would be too difficult to do, anyway. The goal is simply to enhance what's already there without affecting the original vision in a detrimental way.

We don't have an exact ETA for the v1.2 update. But we're looking to have it done before the end of 2014.

Thanks from the Killer App Mod team, and if you have any questions or comments: visit the LDSO message forum or leave a comment here.

TRON 3 Could Begin Filming By The End Of 2014

By TronFAQ on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:54 PM
Over a year ago, there was news that the sequel to TRON Legacy — TRON 3, for lack of a better name right now — was on a fast-track for release, perhaps as early as this year.

Now, Crave Online has word from Bruce Boxleitner, TRON himself, that TRON 3 might begin filming at the end of 2014, with a possible 2015 release. The article also mentions a number of other interesting tidbits.

The script is being written by new writers Jesse Wigutow and David DiGilio, with Legacy's writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz out of the picture. This doesn't concern me too much, in spite of the fact that these new writers don't have a lot in the way of prior writing credits. Giving the script to some new blood might actually lead to a better story . . . because Legacy's story was definitely its achilles heel. Joseph Kosinski, director of TRON Legacy, is likely to return though.

Cillian Murphy, who appeared as Ed Dillinger Jr. in TRON Legacy as a cameo, is rumored to be returning as Jr. for a pivotal role in TRON 3.

Which leads to the third revelation: that much of the film will be occurring in the real world, with only a limited amount of time spent inside the computer, in the electronic world. The focus of the sequel's plot, will apparently be Sam Flynn and Alan Bradley trying to retain control of ENCOM. With Dillinger Jr. attempting to take the company for himself.

That's definitely not the kind of news, that I want to hear, as a fan of TRON. While I believe the takeover attempt by Dillinger Jr. will make for a potentially interesting story twist on screen, I wouldn't want TRON 3 to dwell on it so much that it's to the detriment of scenes in the computer world. The electronic world is what fans of TRON want to see, not the mundane world of reality which they can get in any other film.

Thanks to Nikefutbolero on TRON-Sector for the heads-up.

PC Games Hardware Lists TRON 2.0 Among Top 10 Video Games Adapted From Films

By TronFAQ at 2:54 PM
PC Games Hardware Germany just released a video highlighting their picks of the Top 10 video games licensed and adapted from films.

TRON 2.0 made the list at number 5, a pretty respectable ranking. It even managed to beat out some titles like the recent Ghostbusters video game (which actually was pretty good), the Dune games (like the Dune II RTS, which is quite old but it was a great game as well), and the LucasArts Indiana Jones adventures (they show Lost Crusade).

And even though they don't mention it, it's clear they were using the Killer App Mod for some of the TRON 2.0 footage. Sweet. (You can see the Gold Cheat option.)

From what I can tell, PCGH seem to feel that TRON 2.0 was a better sequel . . . or, at least that TRON Legacy owes a lot to 2.0.

TRON 2.0 is featured at the 5:13 mark.

TRON 2.0 - 10th Anniversary

By TronFAQ on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 9:03 PM
On August 26th, 2003 TRON 2.0 was released for sale in North America, a video game published by Buena Vista Interactive (now simply known as Disney Games) and developed by Monolith Productions for the PC. Today is the 10th Anniversary of that release.

To mark the occasion, Kain-Xavier has publicly announced a plugin he's been working on for Blender, which will allow you to make your own models for TRON 2.0.

Up until now, you would have to use very old versions of the Max and Maya modelling programs, which cost money and/or are hard to obtain because of their age. (The model plugins that came with the TRON 2.0 editing tools, will only work on those older versions of Max and Maya.)

The Blender plugin isn't ready for release just yet, but it's gotten to the point where it's almost completely functional. So it shouldn't be too much longer. Congratulations to Kain-Xavier on his accomplishment. :)

There was something else I had planned for today, but unfortunately it's not ready to show yet. :( Can you guess what it is? Maybe within the next couple of weeks . . .

Campaign To Save TRON Uprising On SMGO.TV

By TronFAQ at 1:38 AM
I've been a bit slow to report this news, sorry about that.

A campaign to help save TRON Uprising from cancellation has appeared on the site smgo.tv, which describes itself as a crowd-funding service that demonstrates fan interest in canceled shows: with the intention of presenting a campaign to the company that produces the series, showing them that there is still demand to continue with new episodes.

If voting for a show reaches its target, fans then put their money where their mouth is: pledging to help fund the production of new episodes. In return - in addition to seeing their show possibly renewed - people who pledge money will receive rewards, usually in the form of unique merchandise based on the show, made specifically for them as collector's items.

It's an interesting concept, and more about how the whole process works can be read on the site. What makes smgo.tv different, and unique compared to another type of crowd-funding site like Kickstarter, is that people don't have to pledge money upfront. If the studio producing the series still doesn't show any interest even after they're made aware of the campaign, no one's money need be refunded.

This campaign probably has the greatest chance of succeeding, of any fan effort. Even more so than a petition. That being said, I'll still reluctantly state that it seems Disney is dead set against renewing TRON Uprising.

Although no official cancellation statement was ever made, it's more-or-less been confirmed in a quote from an article on Variety.com.

Disney XD's visually impressive and pricey animated series "Tron: Uprising," based on the films, struggled to attract the channel's core viewers of 6- 11-year-old boys. The series' tone appealed more to an older audience that isn't yet watching the channel.

"It did well with many segments of the audience, but missed some of the key demos," DeBenedittis says. "It's one of those examples where if the bull's-eye is the Disney brand, and you go into the other rings, you take some risks in missing the magic of the bull's-eye. ("Tron: Uprising" took the right risk and we created a show to be so proud of, but it hit the secondary ring of the target.")

With a sequel to "Tron: Legacy" in the works at the studio, Disney Channels plans to eventually bring back "Tron," but it may not be returning as the same show, DeBenedittis says.

Paul DeBenedittis of Disney Channels Worldwide, from a Variety.com article

The key section to pay attention to is the third passage. Disney "plans to eventually bring back [animated] Tron, but it may not be returning as the same show".

Disney didn't attract the kind of audience they wanted, as I ruminated about in my previous petition article. But rather than give TRON Uprising another chance on one of their other networks (Disney Channel, ABC, etc.), they've decided to simply give up on it. Truly shameful.

Here's hoping that, perhaps, the combined efforts of fan petitions and this campaign on smgo.tv, might make the difference.

Thanks to deeahchur on the LDSO forum, and bluelantern714 and BanditTron on Tron-Sector, for the news.

Changes in Derez (DM) Map Pack
YCP Carrier (YCP_CARRIER) ADDED

YCP Carrier (by deeahchur) is also available separately, on its own, so you don't have to download the entire Complete Map Pack just to get the new map. But if you read further, you'll see there have been other changes to the map pack that may make it worth it to you, to re-download the entire thing.

Use REZ Handler to install just the YCP Carrier map, and then use the "Combine .REZ" feature to merge the YCP.REZ file with DM_Pack.REZ to reduce the .REZ file count.

Click here to download just the YCP Carrier map

Changes to the Installer
  • After installation, you will be notified about the TRON 2.0 Multiplayer Fix if you don't already have it. (Since there's no point in installing multiplayer maps, in the first place, if you can't even get online to play them.)

  • Added an option to uninstall the Complete Map Pack, so files won't get left behind if you uninstall the TRON 2.0 game itself.

  • Includes some other under the hood changes, made in preparation for v1.2 of the Killer App Mod.

After the map pack has been extracted, you click on the icon to run the installer. The maps will then finally be installed. If you chose to extract to the desktop but don't see the icon, hit the F5 key on the keyboard to refresh the desktop or click the right mouse button on the desktop and choose Refresh if it's available.

TRON 2.0 Multiplayer Fix v1.0 Released

By TronFAQ on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 4:23 AM

Download the TRON 2.0 Multiplayer Fix

October 31, 2014 UPDATE: This article is out of date. Killer App Mod v1.1a has been released, which restores Multiplayer in-game without the need for this external program.

In early December 2012, Gamespy dropped support for TRON 2.0 Multiplayer. So LDSO and schmatzler of tron-servers.net have done something about it!

Get the TRON 2.0 Multiplayer Fix from the download link above, to allow you to easily Join and Host servers again. This fix will be incorporated into Killer App Mod v1.2 when it's available, but for now this is being released on its own.

  • 1:31 - Installing the fix
  • 4:00 - How to Join servers
  • 7:27 - How to Host servers

It's best to watch the video in higher quality HD so you can see the details better.

Link to detailed written explanations, including how to Host: http://www.ldso.net/tronwiki/doku.php?id=wiki:article:tronfaq:project:multifix

Please note that unless your computer processor is at least dual-core, allowing the installer to change Qtracker configuration for you automatically will take a very long time.

So, on really old computers you may want to say "No" when it asks about proceeding with this step and configure Qtracker yourself later on. On fast computers, if you say "Yes" it will only take 2-3 minutes.

Either way, the installer has not crashed. You just have to BE PATIENT.

If you have any questions or concerns about the TRON 2.0 Multiplayer fix, please visit the LDSO message forums.

Three Downloads Updated (Map Pack, Legacy Disc Mod, Editing Tools)

By TronFAQ on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 3:36 AM
Three projects for TRON 2.0 have been updated, see below for details and download links.

While the latest 12.27.2012 release of the Complete Map Pack does not include any new maps, it does fix an issue where the installer would not work correctly if the language in Windows was not set to English.

The Complete Map Pack is a collection of all the fan-made Multiplayer custom maps for TRON 2.0.

Version 1.1a of the KMX Legacy Disc Mod also corrects the same issue where its installer would not work correctly if the language in Windows was not set to English.

The Legacy Disc mod is a TCDG mod that allows you to change the discs in TRON 2.0 to look like the ones in TRON Legacy.

Version 1.2a of the TRON 2.0 Self-Installing Editing Tools again fixes the same issue with its installer, where it would not work correctly if the language in Windows was not set to English.

Another fix is the installer no longer aborting after choosing to skip extraction, if a previous existing extraction was done improperly. Also, now on uninstall, you are informed that WinREZ LT Studio and XN Resource Editor must be uninstalled separately.

Meanwhile, work on a fix for TRON 2.0 Multiplayer is underway. See the article about Gamespy dropping support for older games, to find out more about the situation. Also visit the LDSO Facebook page for discussion on the subject.

TRON 2.0 Gamespy Master Server Offline For Good?

By TronFAQ on Saturday, December 08, 2012 at 1:00 AM
January 20th, 2013 UPDATE: A fix for TRON 2.0 Multiplayer has been released. You will need the fix to play online.

After some good news (TRON 3 sequel moving forward) comes some bad news.

I just found out that Gamespy Technologies was sold by IGN to another company named Glu Mobile, a few months ago. Didn't even know about it, until now.

Well, that company has decided to drop support for a lot of older games that use Gamespy for multiplayer connectivity, some time in the week preceeding the date of this article. Hundreds of games are affected, and TRON 2.0 is one of them. Players of these older games are incensed as you might well imagine, bombarding the Facebook Gamespy page with lots of angry comments.

So, basically, you will no longer be able to find any servers for TRON 2.0 Multiplayer, from inside the game. We'll either have to wait it out and see if the new owners reverse their decision due to the uproar, or if we need to: come up with an alternative way to find servers.

Either way, TRON 2.0 Multiplayer is currently crippled. The LDSO servers that would normally be running on weekends, will remain offline for the time being because of the current situation.

Sad times.

TRON 3 Fast-Tracked For Release In 2014?

By TronFAQ on Thursday, December 06, 2012 at 6:30 PM
The on-again, off-again TRON 3 (for lack of a better title) sequel to TRON Legacy is back "on" again. Apparently, its release is being fast-tracked, and last everyone heard (from Bruce Boxleitner, TRON himself) the film is supposed to be released in 2014.

"It's in the works," he explained. "Anything could happen, but all I can say is, it's in its formative stages. [Joseph] Kosinski, who is slated for it, he's shooting another movie now, and then they'll get around to doing that. I think somewhere around 2014, maybe. I'm talking way out of school here, but they can't shoot me because I'm TRON."

- Bruce Boxleitner, from an I Am Rouge interview by Jordan DeSaulnier

Hollywood Reporter story breaking the news about TRON 3 moving forward

Hopefully, this news means that TRON Uprising has a chance of being renewed, after all? But please sign the TRON Uprising petition if you haven't already, as an extra measure to help ensure the show isn't cancelled.

TRON Uprising Petition

By TronFAQ on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at 7:41 PM

Link to the petition

Due to the poor scheduling and handling of TRON Uprising by Disney, and because there is a real danger of the show being cancelled, fans are banding together and signing a petition to urge Disney XD to reschedule the show back to a better time slot. (The show has recently been moved to 12:00 AM midnight ET on Sunday each week, technically Monday mornings.)

If enough people sign the petition, Disney may rethink their actions. So I'm doing what I can to help out, by mentioning it here on this site and on the various LDSO maintained sites. The petition will be mailed in to Disney by founder Bradley Clarke, once it reaches a high enough signature count.

For those that believe petitions don't do anything: all I can say is, that's not true. There have been plenty of examples where petitions have made a difference. A good example of that was the petition against the design of the characters in the new Loonatics Unleashed cartoon released by Warner Bros. a few years back. A petition can work, as long as it receives enough signatures and gets the right kind of attention.

Back on the 25th Anniversary of the release of the original TRON in theaters, I mailed in multiple copies of a petition I'd created, to various people within the Disney organization. The goal was to show them that there was still interest in a TRON film sequel or a new video game.

Later, I heard through the grapevine that it had a minor influence on getting the ball rolling on TRON Legacy. That Disney saw the dedication of the fans after all these years, and after weighing many factors, decided to at least do a test trailer which was shown at the 2008 Comicon.

So I encourage everyone to sign the TRON Uprising petition. If you don't sign, because you don't think it will work, then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Take the time out, to try and make a difference.

TRON Uprising is the best animated series I've watched in years. It's been almost universally praised by fans and the media. Executive Producer Charlie Bean, the team of animators, and everyone involved have done tremendous work on the series. To be honest, for me TRON Legacy was a bit of a let down. (You can read my thoughts about it, in a previous article.) But TRON Uprising far exceeded my expectations.

I think the real problem here, is that Disney has misjudged which market demographic they should be targeting the show at. Disney has kept repeating this same mistake with every attempt to revive or further the TRON "franchise", time and again. Right now, they are targeting young children who they hope will become future longtime fans. Which is why putting TRON Uprising on Disney XD made sense, to them.

Disney is ignoring the older fan base, by not putting the show on another Disney owned network with a broader demographic. If TRON Uprising was being aired on the Disney Channel or ABC, older fans would see the show and be gushing about it to all their friends. Getting them hooked on the show, as well. Word of mouth is far more valuable than any form of marketing.

When Disney hired 42 Entertainment to market TRON Legacy, this team knew exactly what they were doing. They targeted old-school fans of the original TRON, tapping into their nostalgia about the original film, when they opened a real-life Flynn's Arcade and created an actual Space Paranoids game. This marketing campaign was a great success. Not only were fans excited, but the press was buzzing as well.

TRON Uprising deserves better treatment, and I hope that a petition will help keep alive the best thing to happen to TRON in quite some time.

TRON Uprising - Ratings Not Doing Well

By TronFAQ on Thursday, November 08, 2012 at 4:24 PM

According to Charlie Bean, Executive Producer on TRON Uprising, the ratings are not doing well. The show will not be airing this week on the Disney XD channel, and will likely be rescheduled to another time slot.

Bad news for an animated series, that I think is far superior to the actual Tron Legacy movie sequel we got. :(

The ratings are not good unfortunately. The show needs more eyeballs.

- Charlie Bean, Executive Producer of TRON Uprising

November 17th, 2012 UPDATE: Charlie Bean has updated fans on the status of TRON Uprising, and it's looking very bad. Disney has rescheduled the show to Sundays at midnight on Disney XD, starting on Dec. 2nd.

This time slot marks the death of Uprising, unfortunately. We'll get 8 more episodes, but then it will be cancelled. I can't see it being renewed for another season. Really hate having to report this kind of news. TRON Uprising was such a quality show, and deserves better!

News for fans of TRON Uprising. The show will return to XD at a new time: Sundays at Midnight (technically Mon morn) starting Dec. 2nd.

- Charlie Bean, Executive Producer of TRON Uprising

Some folks are saying Disney is moving Uprising to that 12 AM time slot to compete with Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, and that Disney has finally clued in that the number of older fans watching is more important than they originally thought.

Sadly, I can't see this as anything other than a death sentence. But I would be glad to be proven wrong.

January 11th, 2013 UPDATE: As I feared, TRON Uprising is being cancelled. Very disappointed with the way Disney has handled Uprising, and TRON in general, over the years.

Going to miss the best thing to happen to TRON in almost a decade.

There's another petition you can sign if you want to (link below, thanks to deeahchur for making me aware of it), and you can also try tweeting @TronLegacy and @DisneyChannelPR on Twitter to express your disappointment.

You might also want to read this article I wrote about petitions, and what chance I think a TRON Uprising petition has of working.

January 13th, 2013 UPDATE: Found an article on IGN where Edward Kitsis is apparently claiming the fate of TRON Uprising is "undecided".

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/13/tron-uprising-producer-we-need-more-viewers

However, if you read between the lines it translates to "if we don't get a lot more viewers, quickly, the show is cancelled".

Maybe an outpouring of support NOW might still have an effect, though.

User Error v1.1a - Parts 1 And 2 Released

By TronFAQ on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Q: What is User Error?

A: User Error is a Single Player expansion for the PC version of TRON 2.0 in the form of a mod, that was originally released seven years ago. It featured 5 levels created by Meatsack. Meatsack teamed up with LDSO to create 11 additional levels for the expansion, bringing the total to 16 (including cutscenes). The most recent version of User Error has released the original 5 and additional 11 levels as two separate parts, now known as User Error 1 and User Error 2.

The story of User Error is about a character named Jeremy Powers who works at fCon, shortly after their takeover of ENCOM. Jeremy is having financial troubles, and decides to use his position at fCon to do some espionage in order to make enough money to pay off his debts. A former Russian agent named Karl offers to reward him handsomely if he will risk entering the computer by being digitized, and retrieve the fragments of a top secret file. Gathering all the fragments proves much more difficult than Jeremy originally thought, as his continuing adventures in the new additional levels demonstrates.

Q: What's changed in these updated missions?

A: Here are some of the more important changes you can expect in v1.1a of Parts 1 and 2.

  • CHANGED - Gold colored ICPs and the various color Kernels in User Error 2 now have energy shield armor and discs that match their own color, instead of shields and discs always being red.
  • CHANGED - There are now Gold Launcher type ICPs in addition to Regular ICPs.
  • CHANGED - User Error 1 and 2 are now compressed with a 7-Zip self-extractor. This resulted in a significant file size reduction compared to compressing as a .zip file. (Down to 62 MB.) Also, the self-extractor prevents people from trying to run the installers without extracting first (running inside the .zip), which would often result in error messages when attempting to install that way. The extractor will extract the installers to the desktop by default, where they're easy to find. But, the program also offers you the choice of where to extract it.

  • FIXED - An issue with the setup programs caused installation to fail on Windows 8, and sometimes even prior versions of Windows. This has been fixed.
  • FIXED - Other minor fixes.

Q: How do I use the Mod?

A: User Error 1 and 2 are self-installing now. All you have to do is run the self-extracting program you downloaded to extract the installers to your desktop, run each one, and follow the on-screen instructions. The installation process has been made as automated and painless as possible. REZ Handler is no longer necessary to install these. User Error should work on any version of Windows going back to 98, but was tested on XP/Vista/7/8 only.

It is recommended to install and play through User Error 1 first, then install User Error 2. As you install each part, it automatically becomes active the next time you run Tron 2.0. So after finishing Part 1, if you install Part 2 and start a new Single Player mission, you'll be playing Part 2 instead.

To confirm a part of User Error is installed and active, when you start a new Single Player game you'll get a new User Error mission. As a bonus, if you installed the Killer App Mod before User Error, you'll see a new animation on the Main Menu that will instantly let you know User Error is working.

Remember that while the mod is enabled, you cannot play Multiplayer online or load any older Single Player saved games. You must disable the mod again. You can disable the mod by clicking the "Custom" button in the TRON 2.0 game launcher and removing the X from the checkbox.

Q: Can I load my saved games from Part 1 in Part 2?

You cannot load any saved games from Part 1 when playing Part 2. But at the start of Part 2 you will be given everything you need (weapons, subroutines, etc.) so you don't have to start over from scratch.

If you have any other question or concerns about the updated User Error missions, please visit the LDSO message forums.

Also keep an eye out for another User Error Single Player mission and an updated Killer App Mod v1.2 in the future!

Do TRON 2.0 And TRON Evolution Work On Windows 8?

By TronFAQ on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 11:15 PM

This video is long and a bit boring, but I wanted to show any problems I had in getting TRON 2.0 or TRON Evolution running in Windows 8. So I demonstrate where I hit roadblocks, and how to get around them.

I also wanted to prove the games actually were being installed and attempted to run on Windows 8. So they've been run in windowed mode, rather than full screen. Unfortunately, Camtasia Studio isn't so great for recording games. Any choppiness or stuttering is because of that.

Windows 8 isn't available at retail just yet, but I personally do not recommend upgrading to it at this time. The Enterprise Evaluation trial version I'm using is the same RTM code as what will be sold at retail. When it comes to playing games, stick with Windows 7 for now. If I change my mind on this, I'll update this article. Despite the recommendation, TRON 2.0 does run even smoother on Windows 8 than it does on Windows 7. Believe it or not.

It's best to watch the video in higher quality HD so you can see the details better.

Right-click gfwlivesetup on that page, then click download.

NOTE: v1.2 of the Killer App Mod isn't available yet. I'm currently working on it, and hope to have it done by the end of 2012. The current version is v1.1.

TRON 2.0 Complete Map Pack (Containing All Multiplayer Maps) Updated

By TronFAQ on Tuesday, September 04, 2012 at 10:50 PM

Download the Complete Map Pack

The TRON 2.0 Complete Map Pack has been updated. It contains one new map, and there have been some other changes.

Changes in Derez (DM) Map Pack
YCP HQ (YCP_HQ) ADDED

YCP HQ (by deeahchur) is also available separately, on its own, so you don't have to download the entire Complete Map Pack just to get the new map. But if you read further, you'll see there have been other changes to the map pack that may make it worth it to you, to re-download the entire thing.

Use REZ Handler to install just the YCP HQ map, and then use the "Combine .REZ" feature to merge the YCP.REZ file with DM_Pack.REZ to reduce the .REZ file count.

Click here to download just the YCP HQ map

Changes in All Map Packs
Some of the map authors saved their sound effect and music files in an incorrect format. This caused the sounds to not play for everyone, depending on their sound hardware configuration.

The sound files have been reformatted (without affecting quality), to fix the issue and allow music and sound effects to be heard by everyone. Therefore, if you install this updated version of the map pack - even if you already have these same maps from the previous release - you may now hear music and sounds in a map that the map authors intended you to hear, but have not heard before.

Changes to the Installer
The map pack is now compressed with a 7-Zip self-extractor. This was done for a couple of reasons.

  • It resulted in a significant file size reduction compared to compressing as a .zip file. (Down to 721 MB.)

  • The self-extractor prevents people from trying to run the installer without extracting first (running inside the .zip), which would often result in error messages when attempting to install that way. The extractor will extract the map pack to the desktop by default, where it's easy to find. But, the program also offers you the choice of where to extract it.

The installer also now checks during installation, if a newer version of the map pack is available. If so, it will inform you and direct you to a download link for the updated version.

TRON 2.0: Killer App Mod - New Weapons Added In Future Update

By TronFAQ on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:28 PM

With the help of new LDSO member Kain-Xavier, both Zook_One and myself (TronFAQ) have been able to recreate the weapons from the Xbox version of TRON 2.0: Killer App in the PC version of the game. Big thanks go out to Kain-Xavier for making this possible! It's something that originally was not going to be attempted until v1.3 of the Killer App Mod, which would have been long down the road.

The Disc Absorber is still not 100% working correctly in Multiplayer Derez, but the remaining three weapons appear to be working perfectly.

And we've been able to do something in the Mod that you can't do in the Xbox version (that I'm aware of): use the new weapons in the Single Player portion of the game! However, the additional weapons will be restricted to users of the Gold cheat, only. Traditional playthrough without using the cheat means no added weapons, to keep the experience as it's always been.

NOTE: I'm not happy yet with the icon on one of the updated powerups, so it's still going to be worked on.

It's best to watch the trailer in higher quality HD so you can see the details better.

We don't have an exact ETA for the v1.2 update. But we're looking to have it done before the end of 2012.

Thanks from the Killer App Mod team, and if you have any questions or comments: visit the LDSO message forum or leave a comment here.

Two New Downloads for the 30th Anniversary of TRON

By TronFAQ on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 12:48 AM
For the 30th Anniversary of TRON, two new items are being released for download.

Download it from here

The first is an updated version of the TRON 2.0 Self-Installing Editing Tools, bringing it to v1.2. There are a lot of changes and fixes in this release. More details can be found here.

Download it from here

The second is a new KMX Legacy Disc Mod. If you've ever used Xistence's Ancient Disc Mod for TRON 2.0, then you know exactly what to expect. It changes your discs to look like the ones from the TRON Legacy sequel.

It was 30 years ago on July 9th, 1982 that the original TRON film was released in theaters. And today, we have the new TRON Uprising series on Disney XD to look forward to every week.

I have to say that Uprising is far, far better than Legacy was when it comes to story and providing varied locales. (Instead of being stuck in indoor sets for 90% of the film!) In a way, it's kind of a sad statement when a "cartoon" is so much better than the actual movie sequel you waited almost 30 years for. But, at least I'm really enjoying what Disney has to offer now!
